Open discussion thread for Friday August 20th

I’m going to try an experiment where we have a daily discussion thread here where anything goes.

I know only self-posts have comments right now, and that’s to try and focus commenting attention on original content here on the site (which takes thought) rather than what I predict will eventually become a HUGE influx of links (easy to post) and people come into the comments to post one-liners and otherwise hit-and-run. If you want to hit-and-run, I’m totally down with that… just submit a link. If however you want informed comments, think out your article or submission and post it as a self-post.

As always, I’m sure someone will disagree with me, so let me know in this open discussion. If you’re a first-time visitor or lurking and have yet to create an account… well, here’s the link to register, get on it already.

    1. I wouldn’t say that. It just takes time to cultivate. The other sites I have written for and/or commented at became more popular as commenting took off. But it does not necessarily happen right away.

  1. For those who missed it, my suggestion was to make allowing comments the default option, with disallowing them requiring checking off a box when making a post, rather than the other way around as is the case right now.

    1. Well, as the site becomes less of a WordPress hassle on the back-end and I iron out the wrinkles in the submission process, having comments on every post is on my list. But since the site is only a week and a half-old since relaunch I think it makes sense to direct people’s commenting attention towards full articles here on the site, or direct them offsite to other libertarian/news sites where there is already discussion occuring.

This is not me trying to clamp down on discussion at all, merely focusing it to the proper places.

    1. You are correct. Bust some people have also said that I should open comments on all articles. I think I’m just going to leave it up to the individual poster with a preference for keeping them closed if we can invade someone else’s comments.

      For the lulz of course.
