Downsize DC financially strapped, suspends operations

Jim Babka has announced that Downsize DC is suspending their operations because they apparently spent all their money and didn’t raise enough in contributions to cover costs (and are $6,400 in the hole). I’m not trying to be one to wag my finger at fellow travelers in the liberty movement (seriously, I have my own fuck-ups to account for), but you gotta admit that the irony is palpable considering their organization’s goal is to promote fiscal responsibility.

Aside from the Read the Bills movement (a somewhat dated proposal that had much promise), their organization hasn’t gained a whole lot of traction in recent memory (I’ll be honest, I don’t seek news or movement input from them, and linking to them in our sidebar was more or less as a gesture of goodwill). Perhaps it’s time for Babka to simply consider the possibility that it’s time to retire the Downsize DC website and use their final salutation and farewell to channel their supporters to their much more active allies. I’m sure Babka, his team and what remains of the members there are still just as fired up as the rest of us; I humbly suggest that they shutter the site with dignity, and not simply fade away into irrelevancy.
