The headline reads “Senate Considers Independent Ethics Office”. From the article:

An independent ethics office is included in a lobbying reform package a Senate committee is taking up, putting on the table the sensitive issue of whether lawmakers are capable of policing themselves.

I’d laugh my ass off if it wasn’t so damned serious.

I like tasteful cigars, private property, American whiskey, fast cars, hot women, pre-bailout Jeeps, fine dining, worthwhile literature, low taxes, original music, personal privacy and self-defense rights -- but not necessarily in this order.

  1. They’re not capable of policing themselves, it IS a joke, albeit a supremely unfunny one…

    My guess is one of two things will happen:

    1) They’ll set up the board, and, just like the White House’s Civil Liberties Board, never actually meet.

    2) They WILL meet, and serve merely as a rubber stamp, to provide false legitimacy and the label of “Ethical” to whatever aggregious, unethical plans they happen to have at the time.

  2. …or some bright boy attaches the independent counsel’s old taskload to it and it becomes more interested in presidential/congresscritter blowjobs than actual ethics
