F$%k with the FCC, Pay $325k

From Boing Boing’s excellent quip:

The Federal Government just increased the price for saying “fuck” on TV or radio from $32,500 to $325,000. That’s because Congress passed the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act (BDEA). I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to a sharp drop in criminal behavior as a result of this new law to keep our minds squeaky clean. Link

The money will be put into the newly legislated Children’s Un-Swearing Security jar… or CUSS Jar. The money will then be used to leverage the government’s ability to buy soap in bulk… to put in everyone’s mouth.

Update: Guess who’s the only Republican to vote no? That’s right… libertarian darling Ron Paul.

  2. Weeeeeeell, I’ll be FUCKED!!! That’s FUCKING disgusting, the fuckin’ dogs! FUCK me:-) Oooooooh, that cwazy Battplug! FU FU FU FU FUUUUUUUUUUCCCCKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!

  3. Fuck that shit. Do they not realize that “fuck” is just a word. People should just stop to realize how rediculous it is to label certain words “bad.” If we accept them as just words, there would not be such a thing as “bad” words.

  4. Hmmm. Can they fine you for insinuating a “fuck”?

If so, then those smarmy new anti-smoking ads with “whatthefxsup.com” won’t last long…

  5. The FCC is on the way out and they know it. With satellite radio a reality, and soon internet radio available in our automobiles, we are entering an age where anyone will soon be able to run their own personal, unregulated radio or television station.

It is a damndable shame that this group was able to do unknown damage to the social landscape in thier decades of fascism, and a great triumph of himanity that we are soon rid of them.

I wonder what they will change FCC to mean when they become antiquated, because you know they’re not shutting down.

  6. Gabe — naw; they could always redefine the communications forum to include “all radio-wave transmissions and the communications exerted therein” …

That’s comprehensive of cellular, satellite, and any mechanism to get the net into your car, really — unless you want to beam infrared lasers from a ground network encompassing all roadways, and even then that is *EASIER* to fix.

  7. Alternately, they could choose to regulate all electromagnetic radiation – better not open your eyes without the proper license.

  8. Why is it that fuck is wholly inappropriate yet copulate is fine? They both have the exact same meaning so when we ban words that are more common we are actually not saying it is the thought that we ban but the sounds of the letters. It is not what you are saying that bothers me but the sound you are making. That is insane.
