Something went wonky with my PowerBook G4 and it won’t boot past the grey loading screen anymore. Luckily, the Apple people are really cool and walked me through some stuff over the phone (nothing worked, arg).
A really cool trick is to hold down APPLE + S after booting, and you go straight to console. There were some other nifty little things he had me do with holding down keys while booting, but I have no idea what they were supposed to do.
The good news is that there’s an Apple store on the East side of Cleveland, so I’m running over there this evening and seeing if they can do anything (I packed my boot disk away, duh). Hopefully it won’t require anything drastic like sending it off somewhere for “real” repair.
Until then, no blogging because … well, I can’t edit images to go along with posts, and pure text blogging is so passe.
UPDATE: After a lengthy process of reinstalling the OS, the laptop is back in commission. Sadly, I have lost a few critical applications that were uh, how shall we say … extended trial versions. I’m pretty sure all my data (e.g. the new website design) is good to go since I backed it up to my iPod before wiping the drive. It’s interesting that OS X crapped out in the first place, apparently it decided to commit suicide and write overlapping files on top of important system files. Oh well, at least I won’t have to send it in to have it repaired. I might drop a couple blog items on you guys later if I can get back up to speed, otherwise it’ll be tomorrow night before everything is back to normal.
