Gauging the Libertarian Blogosphere

I don’t want to go all offtopic on the Cory Mayes story, since I don’t think the crux of the issue is who’s covering his plight, but I have to admit finding it fascinating that the level of libertarian blogging on this story as measured by Battlepanda’s blog roundup is significant in size compared to “Red Team” and “Blue Team.”

Which begs the question: are libertarians ever going to officially pick a color? My vote is for orange (ok, don’t act all surprised).

Update by Stephen Gordon: I was going to write something along these lines, but VanDyke beat me to the punch. Two points I’d like to add. Angelica, thanks for the new category:

Yep. The libertarian list is now up. You guys deserve it. Good show. (It was a lot of cutting and pasting and blogroll sleuthery though, just so you know.)

Yo, libertarians. Right now, the score is Libertarians 23 29, Republican 33 37, Dems 50 58, and Indy and other 9 20. I just added two “L” sites which haven’t been updated yet. Time to reclaim the lead in this contest.

Update by Stephen VanDyke: Orange gets a boost from Battlepanda herself. And for the non-scientific poll, I figure why not put it to a Google Fight.

  1. I vote for a Steven Wright reference:

My school colors were ‘clear’. “I’m not naked… I’m in the band.”

No, seriously… it needs to NOT be one of the Terror Alert colors. Maybe a nice burgundy? Burnt sienna? I dunno, I’m tired. You guys think of somethin’.

  2. There’s some potential for great imagery in advertising a brilliant orange fireball of a sunrise making the blues and reds (and the purples where they become a indistinguishable) flee into the night.

The libertarian dawn of a new era in government.

  3. Wow, Stephen… I’m touched. That IS a lovely thought.

Then again, I’m touched… in the head, for staying up this late and posting oddball comments.

Go with orange. It works. It’ll make even more sense tomorrow.

    Although purple sounds good… but…

  4. Hey Stephen VanDyke,

Add my blog to your blogroll and I’ll add Hammer the Truth on mine.

    Stephen Gordon,

Good job on the current articles! I hope the Russo movie will do well!

  5. The Libertarian color should be gold — just like US currency used to be redeemable in.

Let the Greens have green, and independents have gray. The Constitution Party can think of something.

Orange wouldn’t be a good choice — have you been to dailykos.com?

  6. Lex, I think Steve’s supporting orange because it’s more associated with the Ukranian revolution than Daily Kos.

I think purple is better as having value as a tool for teaching people about Libertarianism.

    Yours truly,
    Nick

  7. Purple was suggested to me before the red and blue stuff started. It might work

Purple and Orange are awesome colors…. I think lady liberty should always be a part of the theme… purple and orange work well in my opinion…

Stephen… where is our image!? ;-)

  8. Color: Sunrise (bright yellow)
    A new dawn for America.

You need a color that works reasonably well on television, which uses RGB primaries and is additive. And if we call it golden yellow who is to complain.
