Arlo Guthrie on JibJab Parody: An “Incredibly Wonderful Bit of Hilarity”

Corante has transcribed some of the finer points of an NPR interview with Arlo Guthrie — son of Woody Guthrie. In it, he dscribes how he doesn’t think that the current lawsuit is a very big deal “because in three months it will be a moot point.”

I don’t think that this JibJab version of “This Land is Your Land” is going to replace the original song and it doesn’t really compromise it. I think it makes fun of both of these guys to some extent. I just think it is incredibly wonderful bit of hilarity in the midst of an overserious conversation.

Hopefully a judge will see it the same way. The reality is that the satirical use of the song is transformative, so it’s legitimate.
