Over the past couple of decades, every new appointment to the US Supreme Court has been more contentious and politically motivated than the last. Since the first appointment to the Supreme Court, 68 justices were approved on voice votes, Abe Fortas being the most recent in 1965 during the term of President Lyndon Johnson. It was three years after Fortas was appointed to the Supreme Court that Chief Justice Earl Warren attempted to work out a back room deal with Johnson to appoint Fortas as his successor prior to the 1968 Presidential election. The plan ultimately failed, and Warren officially retired on June 23, 1969. Prior to that attempt, the last Presidential election year vacancy to be filled was in 1940 when the Senate approved Frank Murphy on a voice vote. see more…

During the 2015 NH Liberty Forum, the NH Liberty Party held its third annual convention.
The NH Liberty Party is an avowed pro-secessionist party with a 5 plank platform that can not be changed “except by 100% of voting members at the annual convention.” Of course, secession is only 1 plank in the platform, with the party also taking a staunch libertarian position on Self-determination, Non-aggression, Crime, and Voluntary Interaction.
The reason for these libertarian planks, according to Ian Freeman, party co-founder and co-chair, is to exclude the bigots and xenophobes who may wish to seceded to then implement their bigotry.
Many people who advocate for secession will not use the word, seeing it as a third rail, of sorts. see more…
Over the years, especially as of late, I have heard many people from many different political sides and affiliations, argue their specific point, belief, notion, whatever, in the name of Democracy.
Republican party, Democratic party, Libertarians, Anarchists, Socialists alike, explaining that their points of view, and their ability to share them, are part of the fabric of the Democracy that makes America so great!
Just one problem…
America is NOT a Democracy. We are and always have been a Republic!
So… worried about cellphone snooping?
What if I told you that the FBI has had the capability to impersonate and man-in-the-middle cell towers since about 1995?
What if I told you that the information about Stingray (the snooping system) has been in the public domain since at least last year, when it was used in a case in Texas? What about the worst possible case, that it’s been in the public domain for more than a decade? (To be fair with the last one, even I, your intrepid news-gatherer, dismissed that out of hand, as Shimomura is pretty much a blowhard)
Now remember, this is five or so years BEFORE the DHS was even thought of, so god only knows what those intrusive idiots came up with in the ensuing decade.
Yet these guys have a black budget in the billions, and we have nary a dime to spend on, say, educating our Army.
Happy fishbowl, suckers!
