Dead as a Dorner? Messy media jump the gun

From ABC, to NBC to CBS and CNN, media outlets have been covering the Chris Dorner situation with furious attention today. However, when the flames erupted from a cabin in Big Bear, facts went out the window as fervor took over.

Surprisingly, only FoxNews — apparently intently focused on the State of the Union address at the time — managed to not erroneously report a body on twitter. They did however report on their website.

The LAPD had to set the record straight:

In a twitter world, a lie can literally make its way around the world before the truth even has a chance to tie its shoelaces (apologies to Mark Twain).

Larry Pratt (Gun Owners of America) bests Piers Morgan

Another gun control debate where the knee-jerk reactionaries resort to name calling and emotional appeals — in contrast to calm-headed assessments of what is truly evil (certain people and policies which create victim zones).

Larry Pratt, the executive director of GOA, seems to be quite cool and calm, even laughing at the ridiculous claims of Piers Morgan who at one time or another during the badgering said the following things:

You are talking complete and utter nonsense….

What you just said, Mr. Pratt, was an absolute lie….

You’re an unbelievably stupid man, aren’t you?…

What a ridiculous argument. You have absolutely no coherent argument whatsoever. You don’t give a damn, do you, about the gun murder rate in America. You don’t actually care….

It’s complete nonsense….

I know why sales of these weapons have been soaring in the last few days. It’s down to idiots like you….

You are a dangerous man espousing dangerous nonsense, and you shame your country.

I don’t know what’s worse, the fact that some twat from England is trying to lecture Americans on gun ownership rights after yet another horrific shooting spree occurs in a “gun free zone” (a.k.a. where all the unarmed victims are), or the fact that we’re supposedly not allowed to laugh at his accent-laden stupidity.

Romney negative on Fed’s QE3 intentions

Once again we can partially agree with Romney, though it’s painfully obvious he’s just been listening to Ron Paul’s fiscal conservatism and wants to hitch a ride on that political undercurrent. From CNN:

“I am sure the Fed is watching and will try to encourage the economy. But I don’t think a massive new QE3 will help the economy,” Romney said, referring to a program called quantitative easing.

While July’s just-released jobs figures showed the public sector taking a major beating, Romney repeated his belief that a government stimulus program is not the right course, saying the first one did not work and “expecting a different result is, as famously said, the definition of insanity.”

It’s a testament to Ron Paul’s vigorous House actions to audit the Federal Reserve that this is even being brought up on the campaign trail, much less by the same guy who less than six months ago claimed credit for the structured bankruptcy nature of the ill-fated U.S. auto maker bailouts: see more…
