Because the Birchers are willing to burn our Civil Liberties on the pyre of fiscal conservatism? Because they basically cast out the Nolanite branch of the LP in the late seventies/early eighties? Because they’re responsible for Bob-fucking-Barr as the LP nominee in ’08, when we had a REAL chance (if Johnson had any forward momentum at all to work on last year, we’d be dictating terms to at least one of the majors today, hell, *I* got 7% in the microcampaign to end all microcampaigns)

Leaving aside the fact that Colorado is the birthplace of the Libertarian Party: the number of Republicans who self-identify as libertarian-leaning is growing incredibly. It can easily be argued that a lot of those republicans who are already in state gov positions are already very libertarian in their policies.

Two names that immediately come to mind in Colorado are freshman senator Larry Crowder and Sec. of State Scott Gessler aka “the honeybadger” (both of who I have had the pleasure to speak with and confirm their bonafides as small government champions).

As for the South Carolina article: HoT gladly entertains submissions that expose corruption or foists fair criticism on *any* party.

Is there even a chance that a Libertarian could get elected to the State House in CO? It would be a great thing if they could especially if they created the swing vote. Since most people tend to be Libertarian without even realizing it. I bet some of those new MJ business people would make well financed Libertarian candidates. Also, I am awaiting an equally critical article about the Republican majority government in NC.

Out of the three nightmare scenarios posited, two of them are pretty much what’d happen in a Libertarian Utopia, flat equality in tuition and marriage equality. So yeah, the Democrats are the evil ones because they actually DO the Libertarian thing rather than talk about it. God, can we just get rid of the fucking Birchers already?

The good news is that elections are in two years. While some legislative Democrats believe that they can move to the left, it doesn’t mean that the voters of Colorado want the same thing. In fact, I doubt that in-state tuition for illegal immigrants, much gun control, or even possibly civil unions would pass at the ballot box. That means that, if Democrats move to the left, they’ll alienate Coloradans and put their jobs in danger in 2014. As it stands now, the GOP will take back the Senate in 2014. The House and the governor’s mansion could be up for grabs, too, if Democrats overreach.
