A website purporting to belong to George Zimmerman, devoid of any photographic proof that it is indeed manned by him, has popped up at TheRealGeorgeZimmerman.com. The design is very “I did this in 15 minutes” so it’s clear who ever is issuing the message has put about as much thought into this internet matter before he “pulled the trigger”.
On the very front page of the site, which features a humongous flag that is taking forever to load (even though there’s only been less than a thousand visitors total) is the following statement:
I am the real George Zimmerman,
On Sunday February 26th, I was involved in a life altering event which led me to become the subject of intense media coverage. As a result of the incident and subsequent media coverage, I have been forced to leave my home, my school, my employer, my family and ultimately, my entire life. This website’s sole purpose is to ensure my supporters they are receiving my full attention without any intermediaries. It has come to my attention that some persons and/or entities have been collecting funds, thinly veiled as my “Defense Fund” or “Legal Fund”. I cannot attest to the validity of these other websites as I have not received any funds collected, intended to support my family and I through this trying, tragic time.
I have created a Paypal account solely linked on this website as I would like to provide an avenue to thank my supporters personally and ensure that any funds provided are used only for living expenses and legal defense, in lieu of my forced inability to maintain employment. I will also personally, maintain accountability of all funds received. I reassure you, every donation is appreciated.
Sincerely,
George Zimmerman
If this is real, I will say that not mentioning Trayvon Martin at all is poor form. Simply referring to it as “the incident” by the second sentence is even worse. Some things must be thought through, and Zimmerman (or his followers if this is not a legit site) would do well to think a bit longer.
Yes, of course we want the facts. It seems “The Real Zimmerman” will indulge us only so far of “the event” on a page entitled “The Facts” — a whopping half-paragraph that follows another famous quote. We are promised “the facts will come to light” but that they won’t be discussed on that site, since it’s clear Zimmerman isn’t out of the woods legally and his lawyer has likely advised him to stay hush (but hey, go make a website, LOL).
One bright point in this site’s defense is that it tries to defuse the racial powder keg by quoting Thomas Paine, “The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.” That sentiment is left a little hollow by a re-posting of a photo of “Long live Zimmerman” graffiti that was scrawled at Ohio State University in a clearly symbolic gesture:
Hammer of Truth reached out to contact the site’s owner and discuss the graffiti, a comment was not made by the time of this article’s posting.
Update: Zimmerman’s attorney has confirmed the website is legit. We’ve also learned that the site really was setup in one day (see, told ya). Remind me never to hire that guy, he’ll let you talk your way into jail!
Hammer of Truth has still not heard back from its inquiry to Zimmerman on the OSU graffiti, but we’ve noticed it was taken down.
