Easter and Passover weekend got hella interesting over in the libertarian internet drama sphere at IPR (Independent Political Report, political relationship status: it’s complicated).
IPR picked up on a recording of Wayne Allyn Root, infrequent subject of Hammer of Truth bashings and guy who holds a lot of titles in the LP political machinery, giving Mitt Romney more of that “inevitability” propaganda that we’ve all heard about a million times before:
I think the important thing now is to make sure Obama is not elected, and that means in my mind, I would love for a libertarian like Gary Johnson the two term governor of New Mexico would actually get elected President, but I think we all know that’s not going to happen so therefore it’s got to be Romney there is no choice.
That’s the quote that started this whole libertarian brouhaha.
Reason’s Hit & Run blog quickly followed in on the unfolding drama and even more grief was lobbed at Root in their comments. The trackbacks soon rolled in at IPR, and as they say in Hollywood, “It’s show time“.
Root himself came to the comments at IPR to defend himself after calls for him to resign were issued by several detractors. After the comments fiasco that unfolded, I’m bound to agree. I managed to make my own “media appearance” over there and ask Wayne some questions, you’ll enjoy it.
The next day after receiving enough of that internet smart-assery, Root managed to top level post his own version of the events at IPR where more shit continued to hit the fan in the comments. Root again came into the comments to smack talk, so I too made another “media appearance”.
I’d have more to write on the subject, but just listening and watching all 4000 Wayne Allyn Root media appearances to properly research his buzzword-spouting dumb ass has absolutely wore me out. I’ll let Radley Balko be the winner of the last word here when he warned us in 2010, “Libertarians: The man is a nut. Associate with him at your peril.”
Question to our readers and libertarians/Libertarians: Should Root resign?
Update: Twitter seems to have gone apeshit over this too:
Not a single positive reaction.
Update II: My apologies to the IPR readers when I fat-fingered it to call you IPT (look at your keyboard). The error has been fixed free of charge.
