In a long-awaited step forward for marriage equality for all Americans, President Obama has decided to stop defending the constitutionality of the “Defense of Marriage Act,” a discriminatory piece of legislation designed to deny marital rights to same-sex couples.
Attorney General Eric Holder informed Congress that he and President Obama have taken the position that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) should be struck down as unconstitutional, as a violation of same-sex couples’ right to equal protection.
But right on cue, up pops John Boehner, ready to rise to the occasion to lead the fight for the forces of discrimination and hate:
Speaker John Boehner is ready to take on the White House over the Defense of Marriage Act, pledging to force the issue in the House…”I’d be very surprised if the House didn’t decide that they were going to defend the law,” Boehner said.
So two months into his Speakership, he STILL doesn’t have a real jobs plan, but…he’s got plenty of time to fight for hate?
Well, we’ve got a message of our own for Boehner: Do your job. Stop defending DOMA and discrimination, stop coddling a small, hateful segment of your base, and focus on creating jobs — the thing you whined about for years before becoming Speaker.
Write Boehner today, tell him “Jobs not hate,” and tell him to FINALLY do his job.
