CODERS TAKE NOTE: Time for a change? Johns Hopkins scholars say calendar needs serious overhaul…

“Our plan offers a stable calendar that is absolutely identical from year to year and which allows the permanent, rational planning of annual activities, from school to work holidays,” says Henry, who is also director of the Maryland Space Grant Consortium. “Think about how much time and effort are expended each year in redesigning the calendar of every single organization in the world and it becomes obvious that our calendar would make life much simpler and would have noteworthy benefits.”

There’s no way this will take: the cultural resistance of 500 years of the current calendar system won’t be going away anytime soon, and this calendar certainly wouldn’t run parallel very well without its advocates looking very awkward having to explain it.

Saying you’ll meet someone on tuesday what sounds to normal folks like the wrong day of the week and getting it wrong and all is just ripe for comedy.
