Thomas to Bush: Some Answers, Please

According to Drudge, Helen Thomas is in a tizzy because Bush ignored her again. Thomas was quoted as wishing to ask Bush two questions. On Iraq:

“I wanted to ask about Iraq: ‘You said you didn’t go in for oil or for Israel or for WMDs. [So] why did you go in?’ ”

Reasonable question and I’d like the answer, too. It’s a shame that none of the other members of the White House press pool thought to ask. The other intended question was related to the FISA:

“You keep saying it’s a 1978 law, but the Constitution [is] 200 years old. Is that out of date, too?”

Helen, we applaud your attempts to ask the right questions. These are the questions that millions and millions of Americans also wish answered, as well. Bush keeps evading us, as he evaded you. We will keep asking the questions until we get reasonable answers to them — even if we have to ask them in impeachment hearings.

Keith Olbermann also mentioned the Constitution being “out of date” issue on his show last night.

Unfortunately the guest, Dana Milbank, started bringing up US tax law.

It’s fine to “keep asking the questions until we get reasonable answers” but for Thomas to drape herself in the cloak of original intent with her “Is that out of date, too?”, is specious. Thomas is like the ACLU in this matter. The Constitution is sacred when it says stuff they like. But when it does not it’s “out of date”. If one needs an example of what I mean here, ask Helen or the ACLU if the right to keep and bear arms, referred to in the 2nd Amendment, is “still valid”.

    Hugh,

We like the ACLU here for the most part.

I said it before and I’ll say it again. I fail to see how any libertarian can think that overall the ACLU is a bad organization.

So they are wrong about the second amendment…At least they view it as a collective right.

Oh. Nevermind Hugh, I just checked out your webpage and you’re a bigot.

No wonder you don’t like the ACLU.

  • Robert Mayer

Even if we can say that “we like the ACLU for the most part”, it’s still fair to point out when they are being hypocritically selective in their defense of Constitutional rights.

  • http://disvoter.blogspot.com The Disenfranchised Voter

True, Robert. But I get the impression that Hugh is an ACLU “hater”.

Hahaha Hugh Jardohn. LOL, I just got that.

Perhaps if Helen Thomas had continued to be a journalist (read – someone who REPORTS the news instead of making it), she would get the attention she desires. She made the choice long ago to be an opinionated columnist and now she is weeping about being left out.

She comments “He came on to my turf. I’ll bet the next press conference will be in Room 450 of the EEOB”. I’m sorry, but when you’re in the White House, you’re on the President’s turf. For her to think that she can lay claim to the press room, or even simply a seat, as “her turf” is the ultimate example of journalistic hubris.

Helen Thomas’ days are numbered, and not just because she is an 85 year old crone. She should be ecstatic that she is still invited to press conferences. The continued retention of journalist credentials is the greatest gift she will ever receive from the White House. It would be just as easy for them to say, “Thanks, but you can go home now”. Instead, they will just wait for nature to do it.

I wouldn’t call on her either! She is a columnist who continually bashes the president and his admin. Would you choose someone who is not even a reporter but a staunch enemy who is going to ask ridiculous questions which have no bearing on anything. Someone should tell her that she jumped the shark back in the seventies..

Hugh Jardohn? Richard Hurtz? Oy! Who let the junior high kids in?

  • Rachel Duncan

I find it disturbing, that Helen Thomas’s questions are not supported…I hear aclu…can conservatives stay on the topic?… What Helen asked this man Bush is legitmate. Many Many Americans have this same question. If this war was about wmd, and we did not find them…why are we still there. That is like the police searching house for a joint and never finding it, yet a year later they are still on the couch drinking my beer, and watching football.

Wow, your libertarian convictions must have been incredibly well-rooted for you to abandon them after reading just one web site.

We in the movement will miss you.

  • Vietnam Vet

I agree with Johnny about the ACLU.

    I miss Johnny already.

He made me laugh when he talked about being a “liberterian” and how this is a “lefist” site.
