John McCain Says Screw the First Amendment

Senator John McCain to Don Imus:

“I would rather have a clean government than one where quote First Amendment rights are being respected.”

First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Senate Oath of Office:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

H/T to Scott.

If I had the money, I’d take the audio out of that and beat Mc Cain senseless with it. Start rapping about how the fucking Mc Cain Feingold Bill has really cleaned up politics. Ask him why since his bill has utterly failed to do anything positive bout money and corruption in politics, he should not introduce a new bill totally rescinding everything in the Mc Cain-Feingold bill.

I would make him want to physically attack me before I was done with him.

So much for McCain being a “palatable” Republican.

One more thing – how come since nearly every elected libertarian has to take some form of oath of office much like the version above, does that not make a pile of steaming shit out of the no force oath? Which oath is the good one? How can you serve as a elected libertarian when your first elected action is to directly repudiate the LP oath and support the government?

If you really do think that only pledged LP members are the only real libertarians, then havent we ever had a ‘actual’ libertarian in elective office?

The No Force Oath is totally consistent with the Senatorial Oath, because the No Force Oath–as confirmed by Mr Nolan who wrote it–is simply the promise that we are not bomb-throwing hippies out to overthrow the government violently. Anyone who can take the Senate Oath truthfully has no problem with the LP Party Oath.

I like your definition George….but it seems many dont agree with it even though the guy that wrote it says thats what it means.

I guess you’re out to smooth the feathers tonite? Glad one of us is. After listening to Mc Cain trash his little oath he took I’ve about had it with oaths. I havent seen one that works yet.

McCain jumped the shark a while ago, but it wasn’t until recently (when Jon Stewart called him on his speech to some fundie group) that he’s really just shown he’s just another good-intentions Republicrat slicing and dicing the Constitution and throwing the confetti in our faces.

  • Michael H. Wilson

Just wish the LP would make “Support the Bill of Rights” our mantra. Put it on bumper stickers, banners at the convention, T-shirts, etc and shove it up Lil Napolean’s ass sideways.

Me and my wife are among the few of the people that have come into direct contact with McCain (for officer appointments in the Army). He is arrogant and elitist. It is no surprise that he thinks that his ideals supercede the constitution.

  • Richard Gibson

    Respecting the Bill of Rights.
    That’s Libertarian.â„¢

    But, Tim…

Of course the Libertarian oath works: it’s stopped me from several killings over the past 30 years!

And that’s saying something, because I AM just SO good at it….

    Allen,

    Peace, brotha! :D

The only, and I do mean ONLY politician who cares for the people and for smaller government is the one trying to eliminate his/her own position in public office!
Oaths are never true to the human condition. There is a comeback; a direct relation to self-interest and acquisition of wealth. Look at the theocracy building like a taj-mahal in a trailer park. McCain has always been a little brain damaged. I’m surprised people are just now noticing? Throw all these bastards a third-party surprise. Small Gubment NOW!

  • Tony

Why don’t you quote his entire statement.
“I would rather have a clean government than one where quote First Amendment rights are being respected…..that is corrupt”.
