Holy slanted media, Batman!

So I thought this was funny. Go look at the sidebar on the left.

Europe: “Losing Afghanistan”
Asia: “Losing Afghanistan”
Latin America: “Losing Afghanistan”
North America: “My Life In Pictures”

I think it’s awesome how they aren’t even really trying to hide it so much these days. It’s like they just gave up the ghost of the pretense of impartiality. Or, more likely, they tried to hock it on eBay since it’s all about the cash.

Which it is all about the cash, before someone tries to paint me as some altruistic collectivowhatever, but my cash would rather go to an unbiased product… and I think a whole shitload of consumers agree. Bring on the stories of how we’re fucking up in Afghanistan, I think we need to know more than anyone else since we’re leading that war. Don’t insult us with namby-pamby shit about celebrities or whoever. Bring on the truth, the full truth, and nothing but the truth.

If you want a magazine about how “we’re fucking up in Afghanistan” I suggest you buy a magazine about how “we’re fucking up in Afghanistan.” Meanwhile people who care about “My Life in Pictures” will buy Newsweek.

  • Timothy West

it’s different editions of the same rag, DAP. Everywhere else in the world except here, it’s a magazine about how “we’re fucking up in Afghanistan.”

Only here is it about something else – and you cant buy the other editions anywhere in the US. SO neither you or him have that choice. It’s been made for you.

That’s da point. It’s censored – by corporate censors called editors, who recieve their marching orders from The Washington Post Company, who owns Newsweek.

  • Timothy West

just for info purposes, almost every media company in the US is now owned by only 6 companies.

Here’s a good source of info regarding the consolidation and mergers that have resulted in the concentration of money and power as it is now. ( Big Image )

“Douglas McCorkindale, also on the board of directors at Associated Press, is on the board of Lockheed Martin, the world’s largest defense contract company”
For fucks sake, MSM IS part of the Industrial/Military Complex, just like Hollywood!
    AH, America, Home of A.D.D.

  • DAP

I think that 6 companies is enough to compete. Obviously americans want whatever “my life in pictures” is, or else they wouldnt buy it.

  • Stuart Richards

…private action is not ALWAYS good. Didn’t you read Greg’s comment? Lockheed Martin can’t have bad publicity about a war in the nation that signs their big fat defense contracts.

  • David Tomlin

Does anyone know if this means that the American version actually lacks the article(s) about Afghanistan, or if the difference is just the covers?

    That’s one crazy picture, Tim.

  • http://www.lpalabama.org/blog/14 paulie cannoli

Tim’s got it right. DAP, check out the ownership chart and get back to us.

Also check out Aaron Russo’s new movie if/when you get a chance, if you haven’t yet.

America is being turned into a classic corporate-government fascist collusion complete with perpetual foreign wars, domestic surveillance, shoddy fake courts and elections, militarized police, a massive prison-industrial complex, and an economic private-public joint dictatorship which wholly owns the mass media and entertains the people with “bread and circuses” in the grand tradition of the Roman empire.

  • DAP

If consumers think that they arent getting the whole story in Newsweek, than they will go somewhere else. I’d like to see where any of this violates the rules of supply and demand in Economics 101. All we are talking about here is a different cover story; the magazine has the same articles. How we get from this, to some conspiracy theory escapes me, but I am sure that paulie has a link or an unreleased movie that explains it all.

  • http://www.lpalabama.org/blog/14 paulie cannoli

What do you mean unreleased? I just saw it last night.

Here’s another movie you should see

    TerrorStorm

This one is available for free in its entirety streamed online.

“Bring on the truth, the full truth, and nothing but the truth.”

You want the truth, Stu? You can’t handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who’s gonna do it? You?

You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that the situation in Afgahnistan, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives…You don’t want the truth.

We use words like honor, code, loyalty…we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use ‘em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I’d rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post.

  • http://www.hammeroftruth.com Stuart Richards

Are you serious? Notice I didn’t even say shit on whether the war was just or not, I just said we deserve to know about it.

  • http://www.lpalabama.org/blog/14 paulie cannoli

    jessep

Oh, please. You’re not protecting freedom or saving lives. You’re just a stooge for a corporate-regime military-industrial complex which seeks to establish a fascist world empire. Chances are they have made you believe otherwise, but it’s true. Check this out…

    Q) How many U.S. marines does it take to change a lightbulb in Iraq?
    A) As many as possible, it’s really a freakin’ I.E.D!
Why do I say that? Hmmm, maybe 150,000-250,000 dead fucking civilians kinda strip the veneer from MY FUCKING RAGE OK?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
Shut the fuck up and get the fuck out of Iraq. To anyone STILL suppporting the illegal invasion of Iraq I have only this to say…”Suck me OFF, deadman”.

  • http://www.lpalabama.org/blog/14 paulie cannoli

    Yes Paulie, he’s a stooge”¦

I’m glad we agree. But why not make it explicit? Between corporate sponsorship patches on their uniforms, vehicles and barracks, and voluntary contributions from the millions of warmongers still in denial about the true nature of this war, there should be enough money available to get the US treausry completely out of it.

If not, leave them in the bloody desert. Quit paying them immediately. They can stay and fight for whoever hires them, pay for their own way home, or kill themselves. Why should those of us who oppose this mess pay one more penny to continue it? Time for a general tax strike.

  • DAP

Good luck with your tax strike, paulie.

GreginOz: 150-250 thousand civilian deaths? Don’t think so. Also, I heard they have pills that might help your “FUCKING RAGE”.

  • disinter

150-250 thousand civilian deaths? Don’t think so.

“The invasion of Iraq in March 2003 by U.S.-led coalition forces has been responsible for the death of at least 150,000 civilians (not including certain of Iraq), reveals a compilitation of scientific studies and corroborated eyewitness testimonies.

    […]

That estimate excludes Falluja, a hotspot for violence. If the data from this town is included, the compiled studies point to about 250,000 excess deaths since the outbreak of the U.S.-led war.”

    http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article11674.htm

  • DAP

Ok, now find that same number on a respected news source.

Even antiwar.com contends that no more than 48,317 have been killed in the iraq invasion.

http://www.antiwar.com/casualties/index.php#count (they also cite other numbers)

Also, dont let this distract from the fact that I have never supported the war in iraq. However, I disapprove blowing up “as many [of our marines] as possible” by means of an “I.E.D.” like GreginOz suggested. Obviously, he has jumped off the deep end.

  • http://www.boortz.com Jessep

You’re right, DAP. It’s a shame that we have so many people who can do nothing but parrot negativity in our country’s noble cause. These people are trying to destroy the morale of our troops and country. These are the same people who’s negativity causes good people like Terrel Owens to try to commit suicide.

  • disinter

Yes, DAP, any news source other than the mainstream media must be incorrect and not respected. We all know that the mainstream media is not only reporting on the most important issues of the day, but doing it with 100% accuracy as well.

  • DAP

Mike, since you feign a journalist, I simply thought that you should know that journalists are to cite respectable sources. These sources do not necessarily need to be mainstream.

  • http://www.lpalabama.org/blog/14 paulie cannoli

Even antiwar.com contends that no more than 48,317 have been killed in the iraq invasion.

Incorrect. That’s one estimate. Right below they say “British Medical journal Lancet estimates 100,000″ and there are numerous other respectable estimates which are far higher. If we count both Iraq invasions and the 12 years of blockade in between, the Iraq holocaust of the last 15 years has already killed about two million people. This includes deaths from starvation and disease as well as violence. About half children.

    Jessep

There’s nothing noble about your cause. It’s a fascist imperialist war of aggression based on deliberate lies – plain and simple.

If there’s a rash of suicides, here’s hoping it goes all the way to the top of the whole sickening chain of war criminals responsible for this war – a crime against humanity for which I hope they will stand trial.

  • http://www.lpalabama.org/blog/14 paulie cannoli

What makes you think it’s not a respectable news source?

  • http://www.boortz.com Jessup

DAP, you’re right again. At least one person here besides myself and Julian can think clearly and knows what noble causes are.

And paulie, what no Boortz bashing? You’re out of character tonight my friend. And you call this noble cause a “fascisct imperialist war of aggression”? Removing a tyrant who supported terrorists and was bent on attacking his own people and the US and our giving the people of Iraq freedom AND democracy is a “fascist imperialist war of aggression”?

You are showing just how racist you are really are, paulie cannoli. You think white people deserve democracy and freedom but not brown people. You’re more than happy to let them suffer under a tyrannical dictator. SHAME ON YOU!

  • Stuart Richards

LOL yep, you got us pegged.

    We’re total fucking racists. :D

Hold on, I think an African-American just had the gall to drink from the same water fountain I do, so I must organize a public lynching. brb

  • DAP

    “Incorrect. That’s one estimate.”

I know. That’s why I said “(they also cite other numbers).”

“What makes you think it’s not a respectable news source?”

Because no other news sources back their claims. Also, because they use outlandish language like the “slaughter” of Iraqis. And, a .info website cannot even take itself seriously, let alone expect others to. If I wanted to waste my time, I am sure I could find other reasons why it is not credible as well.

“You are showing just how racist you are really are, paulie cannoli. You think white people deserve democracy and freedom but not brown people.”

    Jessup, that argument sucks.

  • http://www.lpalabama.org/blog/14 paulie cannoli

And you call this noble cause a “fascisct imperialist war of aggression”?

No, I call your fascisct imperialist war of aggression exactly what it is.

    Removing a tyrant

And replacing him with a tyrannical puppet regime occupation government

    who supported terrorists

    Proven deliberate lie

and was bent on attacking his own people

The Americans have killed ten times as many of them in 15 years as he did in over 30. Most of the ones he killed were in his power consolidation (when he was backed by the CIA), during the Iran-Iraq war (when he was aided openly by the US) and during a Shiite uprising which the Americans stirred up and then left hanging

    and the US

What? Saddam was going to attack the US? With what?

and our giving the people of Iraq freedom AND democracy

You’ve certainly not done either. They are being killed, raped, tortured, unjustly put in prison, terrorized in their homes, dying from disease and starvation and war

  • http://www.lpalabama.org/blog/14 paulie cannoli

At least one person here besides myself and Julian can think clearly

You two couldn’t think clearly if clear hit you in the head.

And paulie, what no Boortz bashing?

No bashing, just exposing the truth about the psychopathic scumbag. Scroll up and click away if curious.

You are showing just how racist you are really are, paulie cannoli.

    Do tell.

You think white people deserve democracy and freedom

When did I ever advocate democracy?

    but not brown people.

I’ll settle for allowing brown people not to live under foreign occupation or having white people dictate to them what they should consider freedom (colonialism).

You’re more than happy to let them suffer under a tyrannical dictator.

No, quite the opposite – I want Bush out of office.

  • http://www.lpalabama.org/blog/14 paulie cannoli

Because no other news sources back their claims.

It’s well within the range of estimates I’ve seen.

Also, because they use outlandish language like the “slaughter” of Iraqis.

What’s outlandish, or even untrue, about that?

And, a .info website cannot even take itself seriously, let alone expect others to.

    Oh, and why’s that?

“You are showing just how racist you are really are, paulie cannoli. You think white people deserve democracy and freedom but not brown people.”

    Jessup, that argument sucks.

Large loads of diseased whale jizm.

  • disinter

I simply thought that you should know that journalists are to cite respectable sources.

You mean like Les Roberts at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health? Respectable enough for me.

  • http://www.lpalabama.org/blog/14 paulie cannoli
  • disinter

There is an echo here of the treatment given the October 2004 Lancet report that found 100,000 excess Iraqi civilian deaths since the 2003 invasion. This was dismissed at the time and has generally been ignored ever since, even though earlier mortality studies in the Democratic Republic of Congo by the same lead author, Les Roberts, and using the same methodology, were cited by the likes of Tony Blair and Colin Powell.

Last February, Roberts returned to the subject of Iraq, this time estimating that the civilian death toll there could have reached 200,000-300,000. Having examined the media’s preferred study, produced by the Iraq Body Count (IBC) website – which puts the number of civilian deaths, based on reports by the media, at 43,000-48,000 – Roberts and colleagues found that “it cannot be more than 20 per cent complete”.
