Bob Smither Interviewed by KHOU-TV

KHOU-TV aired an interview with Bob Smither today. The interview touches not only on his politics, but also on a personal tragedy. As some of you may know, Smither’s daughter, Laura Kate, was abducted and killed in 1997 just before her 13th birthday. In response, Smither and his family founded the Laura Recovery Center, a non-profit organization for missing children.

Watch the interview here.

UPDATE: The interview has been added to YouTube here.

What a great piece of television coverage. Probably one of the most positvie I’ve seen for a Libertarian candidate.

Still the “livingroom” descriptor stings a bit…

  • DAP

    Short, but effective.

  • http://360.yahoo.com/pong_god Robert Mayer

I love how the anchorman twice said “Lib-a-tarian”. You can tell these people aren’t used to having this word in their vocabulary.

  • George Whitfield

Bob Smither is running a fine campaign.

  • Devious David

    Sounds good. Really good.

So, when is Smither going to be on BOORTZ? He really outta be on BOORTZ, ya know? BOORTZ BOORTZ BOORTZ. and BOORTZ.

  • http://fortbendlp.org K Tunstall

Devious Dave…..get Boortz to call us. He has IGNORED all our attempts to contact him.

  • paulie cannoli
  • Devious David

Bwahahaha BOORTZ is a hoax and fraud! Just like I knew he was! What a phoney. Let the record show that BOORTZ is a first class shyster!

I would be good if you called in with a phoney (almost as phoney as he is) subject and then jumped into Bob Smither.

  • Jeffrey Smith

Smither is great, even if he has two extra letters in his name :), but there are other Libertarian candidates for Congress, and it would be great if you guys at least listed them so we know who’s locally available. I learned about the one up the road from me (in South Palm Beach/North Broward Counties) from a newspaper article. He’s on the other side of the county from me, and therefore in a different district, but I hadn’t even seen a whisper of him here at HOT

  • disinter

    Jeffrey,

Did you see the post directly prior to this one? Actually HoT has covered several different candidates…

What is the name of the candidate you have mentioned?

  • jeffrey smith

Not sure of the gentleman’s name–it rang no bells, and I was in the middle of doing three other things when I saw the article. I do recall that no Republican is running for the seat, and he is the only opposition to the Democratic candidate.
But my real point is that there are several other libertarian candidates out there (Frank Gonzalez who is running in Miami-Dade County is another one) that HOT can at least make a few nods at, instead of focusing on Smithers. Not all of us are from Texas or Ohio.

  • disinter

    Jeffrey,

Again, did you see the post directly prior to this one? That candidate is not from Texas nor Ohio.

We can’t possibly know of every candidate out there. We do have a tips email address (upper right-hand corner of main page) that you can submit names to.

  • Devious David

Yeah, let’s hear about Frank Gonzalez! Surely Stuart can come up with some stupid blathering put down for him instead of solid support for such a good candidate. Stuart?

  • Timothy West

Frank is running as a Democrat, last time I heard. He ran a hell of a campaign down there in 04.

stupid blathering put down for him

Seems to me most of that is coming from commenters like yourself who post here anon under numerous nom de plumes. At least Stu uses his real name. It’s easy to be a target when you dont hide yourself. I got a kick out of “Paulie”
(another fictitious identity) telling me he couldnt go public due to past trouble with “cyberstalkers”. :D

I’ve been public on the net for 16 years now, nary a cyberstalker in sight. Of course, there’s a first time for everything.

HoT seems to me to be turning into shit lately. Much more personal and much less civil than it used to be. When I’m a
irritable ass due to my chemo, (mood swings, dark dark cloud effect) I’m no help, but I have a good excuse unlike most.

It’s hard to take anything anon commenters say too seriously. When they have to hide, they got something to hide.

  • http://www.lpnm.org Joseph Knight

And speaking of Boortz, don’t forget
    http://www.lewrockwell.com/cox/cox8.html

  • http://freelancify.com Nigel Watt

I agree with Tim – what the hell is with you anons? Some of you come here and make rational comments, but many seem to come here only to say crazy shit to stir up the pot. Chill out, or grow a pair and use your real name.

  • Devious David

Blame it on the chemo. I guess when I’m being an ass, I’ll tell people I’m on chemo. It’s a convenient excuse for acting the same way you criticize others for acting. Plus it pulls the sympathy card.

I do not post here via numerous nom de plumes. That is a lie. Devious is not some made up thing I use here only in cyberspace. It developed in meatspace and is in prevalent useage there – that is what I am know by. Another person came up with that, it’s not some self appointed title. I forgive you of your jealousy because I can’t blame you.

Beleive me when I say, I talk on here just like I do in person. I am not afraid to tell you here or to your face that I hope the cancer and chemo kill you. Hopefully I get the chance one day.

  • Timothy West

I hope the cancer and chemo kill you.I hope the cancer and chemo kill you.I hope the cancer and chemo kill you.I hope the cancer and chemo kill you.I hope the cancer and chemo kill you.I hope the cancer and chemo kill you.I hope the cancer and chemo kill you.I hope the cancer and chemo kill you.I hope the cancer and chemo kill you.I hope the cancer and chemo kill you.

You’ll get your wish, most likely. It’s treatable but incurable. I can buy a unknown amount of time but thats it.

The rest of you here, look inside yourself and ask if this guys anger towards me is rational or not. You wanna keep his company from now on? Be my guest.

I do not post here via numerous nom de plumes.

BS. Thats all you do, you and one other anon that think’s he’s slick and smart.

    We’re done.

  • Timothy West

oh, I forgot – I forgive you for your death wish on me….only because I know you genuinely mean what you say.

  • http://www.outrightusa.org Rob Power

Is there some way for those of us who are already giving all the cash we can afford to the campaign to do something more to help Smither in the polls?

When I did a Google News search for Smither, there was next to nothing, and then when I did a Google News search for Texas District 22, I saw an article saying the Democrat would likely win here:

    http://www.cqpolitics.com/2006/09/lampson_says_no_to_special_ele.html

And the same website makes no mention at all of Smither here:

    http://www.cqpolitics.com/06map.html

Shouldn’t websites like this need to add a third color for Smither? :-)

  • jeffrey smith

Okay, I was off a little bit. I said I was trying to do three other things at once at the time I read the article.

Karl Dickey is the gentleman’s name, and he’s running for the State Senate (a horse of different color, obviously, than US House). He’s on the Candidate Tracker, the only one listed for Florida (so far), with a score of 23. He’s the local chair of the LP.

Still, I think it would be a good idea if HoT did compile a list of 1)who is running under the LP banner (complete) and 2)others who are, like Gonzalez, known as libertarian friendly (necessarily incomplete, and being strict about who is included so we don’t have to deal with any Dondero blather). Even the CT isn’t actually a complete version of 1. That way readers would have a good idea of who is running in their area and therefore who they can contribute leg work and personal effort, as well as or in place of money contributions.

  • Devious David

Jeffrey, I’m not sure we have to worry too much about getting Donderized. Everyone here saw him for what he is.

  • http://freelancify.com Nigel Watt

Wow, Devious David, the fact that you’re capable of wishing that anybody die means that your opinions have no merit to me anymore.

  • paulie

I got a kick out of “Paulie”
(another fictitious identity) telling me he couldnt go public due to past trouble with “cyberstalkers”. :D

Going public with what? My name is Paul, and the “ie” is how we said it in NYC when I was growing up, and also makes me more distinguishable from other Pauls who might drop by. I have in fact had trouble with parasites who chose to take disagreements started over political differences on the internet to the next level and to make trouble for me IRL. I decided it was not worth the hassle of using my last name on public web sites. There’s nothing fictitious about me. At least one of the editors of this site has met me in person, and I’ve talked to another one on the phone.

HoT seems to me to be turning into shit lately. Much more personal and much less civil than it used to be.

Well then, be civil and take what I say at face value. What else do you need except my first name? Perhaps you can’t take me seriously without my SSN?

  • paulie

BS. Thats all you do, you and one other anon that think’s he’s slick and smart.

Who would that be, and what leads you to that conclusion? Speaking for myself, I have only posted as “paulie” and “paulie cannoli” – that’s it.

I am not afraid to tell you here or to your face that I hope the cancer and chemo kill you.

Well. I’m glad you’re not afraid, but why? Tim seems to be well-motivated, as far as I can tell so far. Maybe you know him better than I do? Sure, he can be obnoxious and wrong, but so can we all. Unless there is something more to this that i don’t know about, why all the hate?
